- 5 cooking apples (about 3 lb.), pared, cored and thinly sliced
- 1/4 c. water
- 1/2 c. firmly packed light brown sugar
- 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
- 1/4 c. oats, uncooked
- 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/3 c. butter or margarine, softened and cut into small pieces
Directions

1Preheat oven to 350°.

2Place apples in a greased, shallow 2 1/2-quart baking dish.

3Pour water over apples.

4In medium bowl, stir together sugar, flour, oats, cinnamon and salt.

5Add butter. Using fingers, work in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

6Sprinkle crumb mixture evenly over apples.

7Bake 45 to 50 minutes, until apples are fork-tender and topping is lightly browned.
