  • 2 lb. granulated sugar
  • 4 c. pared, sliced tart apples
  • 1/2 c. flour
  • 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/3 c. brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 c. water
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 3 tsp. softened butter or margarine

    Mix granulated sugar with 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon; sprinkle over apples and mix lightly.

    Spread apples; mix lightly.

    Spread apples in a greased 8 x 8 x 2-inch baking pan.

    Sprinkle with water.

    Blend flour, salt, 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, nutmeg and brown sugar.

    Mix in butter to make a crumbly mixture.

    Spread over apples. Bake, uncovered, at 350° for 40 minutes, or until lightly browned and apples are tender.
