  • 3 c. sliced apples (about 6 medium)
  • 1/3 c. sugar
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. grated lemon rind
  • 2 tsp. lemon juice
  • 1/2 c. flour
  • 1/3 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1/4 c. butter or margarine

    Wash apples; core and pare thinly.

    Place in shallow baking dish.

    Mix sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon and lemon rind. Sprinkle over apples and add lemon juice.

    Mix flour, sugar and salt with a pastry blender or fork.

    Mix butter or margarine with dry ingredients and sprinkle over top apple mixture.

    Bake at 350° for 45 to 50 minutes or until apples are tender and topping is slightly browned.
