Ingredients

  • FOR THE DOUGH:
  • 3 cups Flour
  • 1/2 teaspoons Salt
  • 1 cup Shortening
  • 1/2 cups Milk
  • 1 whole Egg Yolk
  • _____
  • FOR THE FILLING:
  • 6 cups Apples, sliced
  • 1-1/2 cup Sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1/4 cups Butter
  • 1 whole Egg White
  • _____
  • FOR THE ICING:
  • 1/2 cups Powdered Sugar
  • 3 Tablespoons Milk
  • 1/8 teaspoons Vanilla

Directions

  1. 1
Mix together the ingredients for the dough. Divide the dough in half. Roll out the first half to line a jelly roll pan. Reserve the other half for the top of the apple danish.
  2. 2
Mix together the apples, sugar, flour and cinnamon. Lay across the bottom of the dough in the pan. Dot the butter across the top of the apple mixture.
  3. 3
Roll out the remaining dough to the size of the pan. Lay across the apple mixture. (This may be tricky, but it does not have to be perfect. I usually have to piece/pinch mine together.) Beat egg white and brush on top of dough.
  4. 4
Bake at 375 degrees (F) for 45 minutes. Remove from oven.
  5. 5
Mix together the powdered sugar, milk and vanilla for the icing. Pour on top of the baked apple danish while still warm. Cut into squares.
