- 4 c. Stayman or Grimes apples, peeled and sliced
- 1 c. water
- 1/2 to 3/4 c. sugar
- 3 Tbsp. cornstarch
- 1 c. water
- 1/4 tsp. allspice
- 1 1/2 Tbsp. lemon juice
- 1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. vanilla
- 1 Tbsp. margarine
- unbaked pie crust
Directions

1Bring water, sugar and apples to a boil.

2Cook several minutes until apples are soft but not mushy.

3Dissolve cornstarch in 1 cup water.

4Stir into apple mixture.

5Cook until thickened.

6Remove from heat.

7Stir in allspice, lemon juice, cinnamon, vanilla and margarine.

8Pour mixture into unbaked pie crust.

9Bake at 425° for 15 minutes, then at 350° for 35 minutes, or until browned.

10Put tinfoil on edges to keep from browning.
