  • FOR THE CRUST:
  • 2-1/2 cups All-purpose Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 cup Chilled Butter
  • 1 Egg Yolk
  • 2/3 cups Milk
  • FOR THE APPLE FILLING:
  • 8 cups Honeycrisp Apples, Peeled, Cored, And Thinly Sliced
  • 1 cup Sugar, Plus 2 Teaspoons For Brushing On The Dough
  • 2 teaspoons Cinnamon, Divided
  • 1/2 teaspoons Nutmeg
  • 1 cup Cornflakes Cereal, Crushed
  • 1 Egg White
  • FOR THE GLAZE:
  • 1 cup Powdered Sugar
  • 1-1/2 Tablespoon Milk
  • 1/2 teaspoons Vanilla Extract

    Preheat oven to 350°F.

    For the crust:

    In a medium bowl, stir together flour and salt. Cut in butter until mixture is mealy. With a fork, stir in the egg yolk and milk. Divide dough into 2 equal parts and chill in the fridge until ready to use.

    For the apple filling:

    Over the apples, sprinkle 1 cup sugar, 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon, and nutmeg. Mix well.

    On a lightly floured surface, roll one half of the dough into a large rectangle and place into the bottom of a greased 9x13 pan. Sprinkle cornflakes cereal over the crust, then layer the apple mixture over the cereal. Roll the other half of the dough into a rectangle and place over the apples.

    Brush the top crust with the egg white, remaining sugar, and remaining cinnamon. Bake for 50 minutes to 1 hour; the top crust should be lightly browned.

    Mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth, then drizzle over the bars while they are still warm.
