  • 2 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 c. shortening (1/2 margarine)
  • 2 handfuls oatmeal
  • 6 medium apples
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 egg yolk with milk to make 2/3 c. (save egg white for top)
  • 1 c. sugar
  • margarine

Directions

    Combine flour, salt and shortening.

    Add yolk. Mix lightly. Roll out half to fill jelly roll pan.

    Save half for top. Sprinkle bottom with oatmeal.

    Arrange sliced apples on this. Sprinkle sugar and cinnamon over apples.

    Roll out top crust and fit over bottom, crimping the edges. Beat egg whites lightly. Spread on top crust.

    Bake at 350° for 35 minutes.
