  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 2 c. water
  • 2 c. flour
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • 6 Tbsp. shortening
  • 2 c. sliced apples
  • milk
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 Tbsp. butter
  • cinnamon

Directions

    Put the sugar and water in a 13 x 9-inch pan and set on stove until sugar is dissolved.

    Mix dry ingredients and cut in shortening.

    Stir in enough milk for rolling consistency. Roll 1/2-inch thick, 6 x 12-inches.

    Spread the apples on, plus butter and cinnamon. Roll up in

    a long roll.

    Pinch edges into roll to seal.

    Slice 1 1/2-inches thick and quickly place slices, cut side down, in pan of boiling syrup. Bake 20 to 25 minutes in a 450° oven. Serve with nutmeg.
