  • 1 1/2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/8 tsp. allspice
  • 1 c. crushed wheat cereal flakes
  • 1/2 c. wheat germ
  • 3/4 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1 c. broken walnut meats
  • 3/4 c. chopped apple
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten
  • 1 1/2 c. buttermilk
  • 2 Tbsp. vegetable oil

Directions

    Sift flour, baking powder, soda, salt and spices into bowl. Stir in cereal flakes, wheat germ, walnuts and apples.

    Combine egg, brown sugar, buttermilk and oil.

    Mix into dry ingredients just enough to moisten.

    Do not beat.

    Turn into well-greased 9 x 5 x 3-inch loaf pan and bake at 350° for 1 hour.
