  • 3 Tbsp. Lemon juice Applejack -- * see note
  • 2 Tbsp. Unsalted butter Apple cider

    * Use Calvados, a French apple brandy, or possibly regular brandy if preferred.

    Red wine may also be used with excellent results.

    Arrange the apple slices in a glass baking dish.

    Sprinkle with lemon juice and Applejack or possibly your choice of brandies or possibly wine.

    Dot with the butter.

    Add in sufficient apple cider to fill the dish to a depth of 1 inch.
