  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 3/4 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 c. applesauce
  • 1/2 c. chopped nuts

Directions

    Cream together shortening and sugar.

    Add eggs and cream until light.

    Sift together flour, salt, baking powder, soda, cinnamon and nutmeg.

    Mix applesauce with flour mixture alternately.

    Stir in chopped nuts.

    Bake in loaf pan at 350° until tester is clean. Will make four 6 x 3-inch cakes.
