  • 2 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • 1 1/2 c. canned applesauce
  • 1/2 c. shortening (Crisco)
  • 1 c. raisins (optional)
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. allspice
  • 1/2 c. water
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 c. chopped walnuts

Directions

    Heat oven to 350°.

    Grease and flour baking pan, 13 x 9-inch, or 2 round, or paper-lined cupcake tins.

    Measure all ingredients into a large mixer bowl.

    Blend 1/2 minute on low speed, scraping bowl constantly.

    Beat 3 minutes on high speed.

    Pour into pan(s). Bake oblong pan 60 to 65 minutes and layers for 50 to 55 minutes, or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean.

    Cool and frost.
