Ingredients
- 1 lb. ground beef
- 1 c. chopped onion
- 1 c. carrots, cut up
- 1 c. potatoes, cut up
- 1/2 tsp. pepper
- 6 whole tomatoes or 2 c. tomato juice
- 1 to 2 Tbsp. fat
- 4 c. hot water
- 1 c. celery, cut up
- 2 tsp. salt
- 1 bay leaf, crumbled
- pinch of basil
Directions

1Brown beef in hot fat in a heavy kettle.

2Add onions; cook 5 minutes more.

3Add water, carrots, celery, potatoes and seasonings.

4Mix thoroughly.

5Bring to boil; cover.

6Simmer for 20 minutes.

7Add tomatoes; cover and simmer 10 minutes more.

8Makes 6 servings.
