- 2 c. self-rising flour
- 1/3 c. shortening
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 3/4 lb. sliced bacon, cooked and crumbled
- 1 c. shredded Cheddar cheese
- 1/3 c. onion, chopped fine
Directions

1Combine flour and shortening until mixture resembles coarse meal; set aside.

2Combine buttermilk and soda, stirring until soda dissolves.

3Add buttermilk mixture, bacon, cheese and onion to flour mixture, stirring until dry ingredients are moistened.

4Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead lightly 4 or 5 times.

5Roll dough to 1/2-inch thickness and cut with a 2-inch biscuit cutter.

6Place on a lightly greased baking sheet.

7Bake at 425° for 10 to 12 minutes.

8Yields about 1 1/2 dozen.
