- 2 c. navy beans
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. granulated or brown sugar
- 2 Tbsp. molasses (more or less)
- 1/2 tsp. mustard
- 2 Tbsp. catsup (if desired)
- 1 small onion (if desired)
Directions

1Wash beans;

2cover with

32 quarts water and soak overnight. Cook slowly until tender.

4Drain.

5Place half the beans in an earthenware pot or casserole.

6Add half of the combined remaining ingredients, adding 1 cup ham broth or chunks of ham.

7Add remaining beans and seasonings.

8Cover with bean broth or boiling water.

9Cover and bake in slow oven at 225° to 300° at least 2 hours.

10When necessary, add water.

11One half can or one cup diced tomatoes may be used instead of catsup.
