  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, peeled and chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, peeled and chopped
  • 28 ounces whole tomatoes
  • 8 ounces no-salt-added tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon italian seasoning or 12 teaspoon dried oregano plus 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 12 teaspoon salt
  • 14 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 lb spaghetti

Directions

    Heat oil in medium saucepan over medium-low heat.

    Add onion and garlic and cook, stirring occasionally,10 minutes.

    Add tomatoes and their liquid, tomato sauce, dried herbs, sugar, salt and pepper.

    Using clean kitchen scissor, cut tomatoes into bite-size chunks in pan.

    Bring sauce to a simmer over medium-high heat, then reduce heat to medium and simmer 20 minutes.

    Meanwhile, in large pot of lightly salted water, cook spaghetti according to package directions.

    Drain pasta and serve topped with marinara sauce.
