Basic Red Sauce Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1/4 lb grnd beef, (1/4 to 1/2)
  • 1/2 med onion, minced
  • 4 x cloves garlic, chopped
  • 1 can tomato paste
  • 1 can minced tomatoes, -or possibly-
  • 1 c. fresh tomatoes, diced
  • 1 x 4 ounce. can tomato sauce
  • 1/2 c. red wine, or possibly white wine
  • 1/2 c. water
  • 1 Tbsp. dry oregano, * see note
  • 1 Tbsp. dry rosemary, * see note
  • 1 Tbsp. dry basil, * see note coarsely grnd pepper, to taste

Directions

    * Or possibly 2 Tbsp.

    of fresh herb, minced

    Brown grnd beef with onions and 2 of the garlic cloves and drain.

    Add in remaining ingredients and simmer for at least 1 hour.

    You can add in more spices or possibly fresh garlic as you go to suit your taste.

    This is an easy stand-by at my house.

    I use wine if I have it in the house but it's good without it too.
