Ingredients
- 1 pkg. active dry yeast
- 1/4 c. lukewarm water
- 3/4 c. milk
- 1 egg
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1/4 c. soft shortening
- 1 tsp. salt
- 3 to 4 c. flour
Directions

1In a large bowl dissolve the yeast in warm water.

2Beat the egg and stir in all other ingredients except add only half the flour. Add more flour until the dough is stiff enough to work with the hands.

3Place a small amount of flour on table; transfer dough and knead for about 5 minutes.

4Wash and grease the bowl.

5Place dough in bowl and turn to grease top.

6Cover with damp cloth and let rise in a warm place about 1 1/2 hours.

7Push down and let stand 30 minutes.

8Shape into rolls or loaf.

9Bake at 400° for 30 minutes or until lightly browned.

10Grease tops with butter and serve hot.
