- 1 1/2 c. warm water (110~ to 115~)
- 2 pkg. dry yeast
- 4 c. sifted all-purpose flour
- 1/3 c. soft shortening
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 egg
Directions

1Pour water into a large mixing bowl, add yeast.

2Let stand a few minutes, then stir to dissolve.

3Add half the flour, sugar, salt, soft shortening and egg.

4Beat with mixer on medium speed 1 1/2 to 2 minutes (or beat by hand with a wooden spoon).

5Add rest of flour and stir in by hand until the flour disappears.

6Scrape down batter from sides of bowl.

7Cover bowl with waxed paper and let rise in warm place until doubled, about 30 minutes.
