- 2 pkg. active dry yeast
- 6 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
- 2 3/4 c. warm water
- 3 Tbsp. sugar
- 3 tsp. salt
- 2 Tbsp. soft shortening
Directions

1In large mixing bowl sprinkle yeast into water; let stand a few minutes then stir until dissolved.

2Add 3 1/4 cups flour, sugar, salt and shortening.

3Blend at low speed, then beat 2 minutes at medium speed or beat by hand.

4Beat remaining flour in by hand. Cover and let rise until doubled, about 45 minutes.

5Stir batter, beating hard 1/2 minute.

6Spread in 2 greased 9 x 5 x 3-inch loaf pans.

7Let rise until doubled, about 20 minutes.

8Bake in moderate oven at 375° for 40 to 50 minutes.
