- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 2 cups flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 (15 ounce) can crushed pineapple
- 1/2 cup melted butter (1/4 lb)
- 1 cup sugar
- 3/4 cup evaporated milk (NOT condensed)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 cup sweetened flaked coconut
- 1 cup chopped pecans or 1 cup walnuts
Directions

1Beat sugar into eggs.

2Add flour through salt and blend thoroughly.

3Stir in pineapple.

4Pour into greased 13 x 9-inch metal baking pan.

5Bake at 350° about 30-35 minutes until an inserted toothpick comes out clean.

6Meanwhile, combine butter through milk in a small saucepan.

7Bring to a boil, lower heat and simmer about 10 min until sugar is dissolved and sauce is thickened.

8Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.

9Stir in coconut and nuts.

10As soon as cake comes out of oven, spread coconut mixture over the top.

11Let cool completely before slicing and serving.
