- 2 c. bean mixture
- 1 tsp. salt
- water
- 1 lb. ham
- 1 large onion
- 1 clove minced garlic
- 1 large can tomatoes
- 1 hot pepper (whole; optional)
Directions

1Wash bean mixture.

2Add salt and enough water to cover over 1 inch.

3Soak overnight.

4Drain and add 2 quarts of water along with ham chunks, diced onion and garlic.

5Simmer until tender.

6Add 1 can of tomatoes and 1 whole hot pepper (optional).

7Simmer 1 more hour.

8Can also be done in crock-pot.
