  • 1 lb. Northern beans
  • 1 ham hock
  • 1 medium potato
  • 1 carrot
  • 2 ribs celery
  • 1 medium onion
  • 1 tsp. salt or to taste
  • pinch of soda

Directions

    Wash beans and soak overnight in cold water.

    Cook cleaned ham hock in 2 cups water in a pressure cooker at 10 pounds for 30 minutes or cook in a large cooker pan.

    Add more water.

    Remove ham, clean and peel vegetables.

    Chop all vegetables very fine. Pour vegetables in cooker.

    Add beans.

    Cook until beans and vegetables are done.

    Serves 6 to 8.
