Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 lb. beef stew meat
  • 2 Tbsp. vegetable oil (divided)
  • 2 stalks celery 1-inch pieces)
  • 2 medium onions, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 1/2 c. beer (alcoholic or non-alcoholic)
  • 4 slices pumpernickel bread, crumbled
  • 3 large carrots (cut into 1-inch pieces

Directions

    Preheat oven to 350°.

    In Dutch oven, brown beef in 1 tablespoon oil, remove from pan and set aside.

    In same Dutch oven, saute celery, onion and garlic in remaining 1 tablespoon oil.

    Add beef stew, beer, pumpernickel crumbs and carrots.

    Cover and bake 1 1/2 hours or until meat is tender.

    Season with salt and pepper.
