Beef Bourguignonne

  • 1/8 lb. salt pork or bacon, diced
  • 12 small white onions
  • 2 lb. round steak, in 2-inch cubes
  • 2 Tbsp. flour
  • salt and pepper
  • marjoram
  • thyme
  • 1 c. red wine (preferably Burgundy)
  • 1 c. bouillon or water
  • 1/2 lb. sliced mushrooms

    Cook salt pork or bacon and onions until onions are golden brown.

    Remove the onions and set them aside.

    Put into the pan the round steak in 2-inch cubes.

    Brown well.

    Sprinkle with flour, salt, pepper, marjoram and thyme.

    Stir and add red wine and bouillon or water.
