- 2 c. sugar
- 1/2 c. Crisco
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 c. buttermilk
- 3 heaping Tbsp. cocoa
- 2 c. flour
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 c. boiling water
Directions

1Mix sugar and shortening; add eggs one at a time.

2Beat well. Put baking soda into buttermilk and stir.

3Add this to sugar mixture.

4Sift flour and cocoa together and add this together, mixing well.

5Put in boiling water and vanilla last.

6Bake in a greased and floured 9 x 13-inch pan and cook at 350° for 35 to 40 minutes.

7Put your favorite chocolate icing on top.
