- 2 Tbsp. flour
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- dash of pepper
- 2 Tbsp. Crisco shortening
- 2 cans tomato soup
- 2 1/2 c. water
- 2 lb. stew meat
- 1 1/2 c. chopped onion
- 1/2 tsp. dried
- 4 medium potatoes
- 4 medium carrots
- 1/2 c. red wine
Directions

1Combine flour, salt and pepper.

2Use to coat meat.

3In Dutch oven brown meat in hot Crisco.

4Add soup, water, onion and basil. Cover and bake at 375° for 1 hour.

5Remove from oven and cool. Pare and cube potatoes and carrots.

6Boil 30 minutes.

7Add to stew mixture with wine.

8Cover and bake at 375° for 1 hour.

9Serve with cornmeal muffins.
