  • 4 12 cups sifted flour
  • 1 34 teaspoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon baking soda
  • 4 cups quick oats
  • 1 14 cups sugar
  • 1 12 cups raisins
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 cup melted vegetable shortening
  • 1 cup light molasses
  • 2 eggs
  • 14 cup hot water
  • 1 cup finely chopped nuts

Directions

    Combine sugar, shortening, eggs, molasses, raisins and nuts.

    Add dry ingredients and hot water.

    Work the dough till it is well mixed.

    On a floured board roll out a portion of the dough to 1/4 inch thick.

    Cut with 3 1/2 inch cookie cutter.

    Place cookies on a lightly greased baking sheet.

    Brush each cookie with water and sprinkle with sugar.

    Bake in oven at 375 for 8 to 10 minutes.
