  • black eye peas - 180g soaked o'nite in 1 litre water & 1/4t baking soda
  • salt 2t
  • vegetable oil 3T
  • asafeitda - generous pinch
  • cumin seeds 1/2t
  • onion 1.5 med - chopped
  • tumeric 1/4t
  • ground coriander 1t
  • ground cumin 1t
  • tomato sauce 1 cup
  • cayenne pepper 1/2t
  • tamarind paste 3T or 2T lemon juice
