  • 2 3/4 c. sifted cake flour
  • 4 tsp. double-acting baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2/3 c. shortening
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 c. milk
  • 3 eggs, unbeaten
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 c. black walnuts

Directions

    Sift together first four ingredients.

    Add shortening and milk and beat 2 minutes (300 strokes).

    Add eggs and vanilla and beat 2 more minutes.

    Put in walnuts and bake 30 to 40 minutes at 375° in 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan or three 9-inch layers.

    Cool and frost.

    All ingredients should be room temperature.
