  • 3 eggs
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 1 c. strained berries
  • 1 c. Crisco or butter
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. vanilla
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. cloves
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 3 tsp. cocoa

    Cream sugar and Crisco.

    Sift dry ingredients; add to first mixture, alternating with milk.

    Add berries and vanilla. Bake in 3 (9-inch) layer pans at 325° for 30 to 35 minutes. Frost with chocolate frosting.
