- 3 c. sifted flour
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. cloves (ground)
- 2/3 c. shortening
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 3 eggs, well beaten
- 1 c. blackberry jam
- 1 c. buttermilk
Directions

1Mix flour, baking powder, soda, salt and spices.

2Cream shortening until soft and smooth.

3Gradually add sugar, creaming until very fluffy, then beat in eggs and jam.

4Add flour mixture alternately with milk, beating until smooth after each addition. Turn into 3 greased layer pans and bake in moderate oven (350°) for about 30 minutes.

5Put layers together and spread with Caramel Icing.
