  • 1 c. butter or margarine
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 4 eggs, beaten
  • 1 c. blackberry jam
  • 3 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 tsp. each: allspice, cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • pinch of salt

Directions

    Preheat oven to 350°. Cream butter and sugar together until fluffy; add eggs and jam. Sift dry ingredients together twice. Add to first mixture alternately with the milk. Depending on whether layers are to be thick or thin, prepare 3 or 4 (9 inch) pans. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes until done. Stack with Caramel Icing.
