Blood Orange Compote

- 12 blood oranges, peel and pith removed, sectioned (about 4 cups segments)
- 2/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 tablespoon orange liqueur (such as Cointreau)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 1 tablespoon blood orange zest (from 1 orange)
Directions

1Combine orange segments, sugar, water, orange liqueur, vanilla, and cinnamon sticks in a medium saucepan; bring to a boil over high. Reduce heat to medium, and simmer, stirring occasionally, until orange segments collapse and liquid is syrupy, 12 to 15 minutes.

2Remove pan from heat; stir in zest, and cool to room temperature, about 15 minutes. Discard cinnamon sticks.
