- 1/2 lb. unsalted butter
- 1 1/2 lb. onions, peeled and sliced (about 6 medium onions)
- 1 Tbsp. sugar
- 1/4 c. Madeira wine
- grated cheese
- 3/4 to 1 lb. pasta
Directions

1Melt butter.

2Add onions and cook them over medium heat until they are soft and transparent.

3Stir in the sugar; reduce the heat and cook, very slowly for about 1 hour.

4Stir in the wine; cook briefly and pour over cooked pasta.

5Sprinkle with grated cheese.
