- 1 large loaf bread (dry hard)
- 3 c. water or dry milk
- 3 large eggs or 4 medium
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 tsp. nutmeg
Directions

1Break bread in a 3-quart bowl.

2Add water or milk.

3Let soak until bread is soft.

4Mix with a spoon.

5Add eggs, sugar, baking powder, nutmeg and vanilla; beat well.

6Grease and flour pan.

7May add 1 cup raisins, chopped apples, cooked prunes or sliced peaches.

8Bake at 325° for 1/2 hour, then at 350° for another 1/2 hour.

9Bake until knife inserted in middle comes out clean. Pudding swells, but falls as it cools.
