- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 1 3/4 c. very warm water
- 1 Tbsp. sugar
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 Tbsp. shortening
- 4 to 5 c. flour
Directions

1Dissolve yeast and sugar in water.

2Let set about 5 minutes until foamy.

3Beat in salt, shortening and 2 cups flour.

4Add enough remaining flour to make a stiff dough.

5Turn dough out on flour-covered surface and knead until smooth and elastic.

6Roll dough into a ball.

7Place in a greased bowl and turn to grease top.

8Let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.

9Punch down dough and divide into 8 equal pieces.
