  • 2 lb. beef stew meat, cut into 2 inch cubes
  • 1 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 2 Tbsp. shortening
  • 1 tsp. worcestershire sauce
  • 6 carrots, pared and quartered
  • 4 potatoes, pared and quartered
  • 4 celery ribs, cut into 2-inch lengths
  • 1 lb. small white onions
  • salt and pepper and flour to dredge meat

    Melt shortening in bottom of stew pot. Roll meat in mixture of flour, salt and pepper. Brown meat on all sides in hot shortening.
