  • 1 1/2 c. raisins
  • 1 1/2 c. water
  • 1 Tbsp. shortening
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 1/4 c. flour

Directions

    Boil raisins and water until raisins swell.

    Cream together shortening, sugar and salt.

    Add egg and vanilla to creamed mixture.

    Add cooled raisins and water to mixture.

    Add flour. Mix and pour into 3 (3 ounce) vegetable cans, about 3/4 full. Bake at 350° for 45 to 60 minutes.

    Add nuts or candied fruit if desired.
