- 1 cake compressed yeast
- 4 c. lukewarm water
- 1/2 c. molasses
- 1 Tbsp. salt
- 1/2 c. shortening, melted
- 6 c. white flour
- 2 c. whole wheat or graham flour
- 1/2 c. sugar
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup water; let stand 15 minutes.

2Add remaining water, salt, molasses, sugar and shortening.

3Add enough flour to make a soft sponge.

4Beat thoroughly for about 10 minutes.

5Add rest of flour.

6Knead.
-
7Then place in greased bowl. Cover.

8Place in warm area.
-
9When dough has doubled, knead again. Let rise.

10Shape into 4 loaves.

11Let rise.
-
12Bake at 350° for about 45 minutes.

13Brush tops with melted butter.
