Ingredients

  • 2 lb. beef chuck
  • 2 Tbsp. fat
  • 4 c. boiling water
  • 1 Tbsp. lemon juice
  • 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • small white potatoes
  • 1 to 2 bay leaves
  • 1 Tbsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 1/2 tsp. paprika
  • dash of allspice or cloves
  • 6 carrots, quartered
  • 1 lb. small white onions

Directions

    Thoroughly brown meat in fat. Add water, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, sliced onion, bay leaves and seasonings. Cover and simmer for 2 hours. Stir occasionally to keep from sticking. Remove bay leaves and garlic.

    Add carrots, onions and potatoes. Cover and continue cooking until vegetables are done.
