- 1 c. packed light brown sugar
- 1 c. white sugar
- 2/3 c. water
- 1/3 c. light corn syrup
- dash of salt
- 2 egg whites
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 c. chopped nuts (if desired)
Directions

1In heavy 2-quart saucepan, stir together the sugars, water, corn syrup and salt.

2Heat to boiling.

3Reduce heat, continue boiling gently until 262° on candy thermometer.

4Beat egg whites in large bowl until soft peaks.

5Beating constantly at high speed, pour hot syrup over egg whites.

6Beat in vanilla.

7Beat until mixture begins to lose its gloss.

8Stir in nuts.

9Drop by teaspoonfuls on wax paper.

10Can pour into lightly greased 8 x 8 x 2 pan..

11Cut into squares.
