Ingredients

  • 1 c. packed light brown sugar
  • 1 c. white sugar
  • 2/3 c. water
  • 1/3 c. light corn syrup
  • dash of salt
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. chopped nuts (if desired)

Directions

    In heavy 2-quart saucepan, stir together the sugars, water, corn syrup and salt.

    Heat to boiling.

    Reduce heat, continue boiling gently until 262° on candy thermometer.

    Beat egg whites in large bowl until soft peaks.

    Beating constantly at high speed, pour hot syrup over egg whites.

    Beat in vanilla.

    Beat until mixture begins to lose its gloss.

    Stir in nuts.

    Drop by teaspoonfuls on wax paper.

    Can pour into lightly greased 8 x 8 x 2 pan..

    Cut into squares.
