Ingredients

  • 1 1/3 c. white shortening
  • 1 1/2 c. flour
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 4 eggs, beaten
  • 10 heaping Tbsp. cocoa
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 Tbsp. white Karo syrup
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. margarine, soft
  • 1/2 c. white shortening
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 lb. powdered sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. cocoa
  • 2 to 3 Tbsp. milk
  • 1 c. nuts (optional)

Directions

    Cream eggs, sugar and 1 1/3 cups shortening.

    Add flour, baking powder, cocoa and salt.

    Mix well.

    Add Karo syrup and vanilla.

    Add nuts if desired.

    Bake at 350° for 20 to 30 minutes.

    Can be baked in a greased and floured 9 x 13-inch jelly roll pan.

    Cream 1/2 cup shortening, 1/2 cup margarine and vanilla.

    Add powdered sugar and 2 tablespoons of cocoa. Gradually add milk until desired spreading consistency.
