- 4 oz. unsweetened chocolate
- 2/3 c. shortening
- 2 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 4 eggs
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 1/4 c. flour
- 1 c. nuts (optional)
Directions

1Heat oven to 350°.

2Grease baking pan (9 x 13-inch).

3Melt chocolate and shortening in large saucepan over low heat.

4Remove from heat.

5Mix in sugar, eggs and vanilla.

6Stir in remaining ingredients.

7Spread into pan.

8Bake 30 minutes or until brownies pull away from pan.

9Do not overbake.

10Cool.

11Cut into bars.

12If desired, before cutting, spread with chocolate frosting.
