- 2 (1 oz. each) sq. unsweetened chocolate
- 1/3 c. shortening
- 1 c. sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 3/4 c. all-purpose or whole wheat flour
- 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. chopped nuts
Directions

1Heat oven to 350°.

2Heat chocolate and shortening in a 2-quart pan over low heat, stirring until melted.

3Remove from heat.

4Mix in sugar, eggs and vanilla.

5Stir in remaining ingredients. Spread in a greased 8 x 8 x 2-inch pan.

6Bake 30 to 35 minutes or until brownies begin to pull away from sides of pan.
