  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 1/2 c. flour
  • 6 Tbsp. cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. buttermilk or sour milk

    Melt shortening; cool a little.

    Blend in sugar and cocoa. Sift together flour, baking soda and salt; stir into cocoa mixture alternately with buttermilk (or sour milk).
