Buttercream Icing

Ingredients

  • 1/3 c. vegetable shortening
  • 1/3 c. butter or margarine
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla*
  • 3 c. sifted confectioners sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. plus 1 tsp. milk (add more if needed)

Directions

    In large mixing bowl, cream butter and shortening with mixer; add vanilla.

    Gradually add sugar, one cup at a time, beating well at medium speed.

    Scrape sides of bowl often.

    When all sugar is added, icing will appear dry.

    Add milk; beat at high speed until light and fluffy.
