  • 2 teaspoons baking powder

  • 5 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, cut into pieces
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1/2 to 2/3 cup buttermilk

    Preheat the oven to convection bake at 400F.

    In a medium bowl, mix the flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and baking soda.

    Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

    Stir the egg and 1/2 cup buttermilk together in a small bowl until blended.

    Pour the liquids over the dry ingredients, and stir with a fork just until the dry ingredients are moistened, adding a few more tablespoons of buttermilk if the mixture seems dry.
