- 2 c. sugar
- 3/4 c. shortening
- 3 eggs
- 2 c. flour
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. soda
- 1/8 tsp. salt
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 1 Tbsp. vanilla
- 1 Tbsp. lemon extract
Directions

1Cream together sugar and shortening.

2Beat eggs in one at a time.

3Sift together flour, baking powder, salt and soda.

4Blend into creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk (flour in 4 parts, milk 3) and vanilla and lemon extract.

5Bake in greased and floured tube pan at 350° for 1 hour.

6This cake is much better, more moist and lasts indefinitely if you keep it covered.

7When you remove from pan, put on cake plate, wrap immediately in foil while hot.
