    Preheat oven to 450° Fahrenheit.

    In a mixing bowl, combine sugar, flour and salt. In a separate bowl, beat egg yolks until pale and fluffy.

    Add egg yolks and buttermilk to flour mixture and beat until well blended. Beat in melted butter.

    Beat egg whites until stiff, then fold whites into buttermilk filling.

    Pour the filling into the pie shell. Bake at 450° Fahrenheit for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to 350° Fahrenheit and bake for 35-40 minutes longer or until knife comes out clean.
